Cheech & Chong

by Heather Miller

Cheech and Chong
Richard “Cheech” Marin and Tommy Chong are a famous duo that many people know of. They began their claim to fame in the late 1960’s when Chong established a improvisational group named City Works that Marin later joined. After City Works ended, Cheech and Chong began making music together. They made a total of nine hit comedy albums that related a lot to their experiences while smoking marijuana. They won a Grammy for the Best Comedy Album with their third album entitled “Los Cochinos” which was released in 1973. They also worked together to make eight successful movies. Their first movie was entitled “Up In Smoke” and was the highest grossing comedy of 1978. Tommy Chong directed all of the movies they starred in together.

Their partnership soon ended and these hilarious men went their separate ways. They both starred in different movies and television shows. Tommy Chong played the stoner character Leo on the entertaining television show “That 70s Show.” Richard Marin later starred in several movies and in a popular television series entitled “Nash Bridges” where he starred opposite of Don Johnson. These men were pot smokers and weren’t afraid of who knew it. They used their hippie beliefs and made hilarious comedy from these blazed-filled times.
